FULL TIME – New Zealand 0-1 Netherlands
Lieke Martens’ wonder goal wins the Dutch all three points, and makes things hard for New Zealand who have to win their next match against Canada to have a chance of qualifying. I will be back tomorrow at 6pm for Norway vs Thailand.
Great play by Ali Riley down the left, and her cross is flicked on by Wilkinson, but she has too much power to find Amber Hearn. Wilkinson then has a 25 yard shot blocked.

Kirsten van de Ven replaces goal-scorer Lieke Martens.
Tessel Middag has a curling effort from 25 yards, which lacks the power, and Nayler catches well.

Shanice van de Sanden replaces Vivianne Miedema.
Jasmine Pereria beats a defender, before her hopeful efforts goes well wide of the near post
Betsy Hassett beats a player before her long distance effort is easily saved by Geurts low down. Hassett never got enough power on that shot.
Lovely interchange between Dekker and Melis down the right, but Melis’ cross goes out of play.
Yet again, New Zealand have a corner. Percival’s outswinging corner hits Wilkinson and goes goalward, but Desiree van Lunteren hooks the ball clear.
72 mins – NEW ZEALAND SUB
Ex-Man City player Betsy Hassett replaces Katie Bowen.
The Dutch break with Martens in a similar position to where she scored, but she tries to pass to Spitse which Abby Erceg intercepted.
Percival launches the corner, curling towards the keeper but the referee decides Geurts was fouled.
67 mins – NEW ZEALAND SUB
Jasmine Perira replaces Sarah Gregorius.
New Zealand won a free-kick on the right-wing, about 20 yards from the goal-line. Percival’s delivery is cleared, but they eventually win a corner.
Katie Bown takes the free-kick, but once again the Dutch defence deals with the danger.

Another New Zealand corner, as the Ferns crowd the keeper. Geurts does spill the corner, but the Dutch defence reacts quickly to clear.
More urgency from New Zealand and they have another corner. Percival’s ball goes over everyone, and the keeper, falls to Sarah Gregorious, but before she is about to score, the referee notices she had controlled with her arm.
New Zealand has a corner. Percival’s ball is deep where Erceg has a shot, but it hits a crowd of players. There was no real threat.
New Zealand have a corner on the right-wing. Percival’s delivery is comfortably cleared by the Dutch.
Manon Melis does brilliantly do beat Abi Riley and cross, but the ball is claimed brilliantly by Nayler.
Martens wins the first corner of the second half with great skill. Sherida Spitse’s corner hits the first woman, and goes behind for another corner. This time Spitse’s ball is claimed well by Nayler.
SECOND HALF STARTS
The Netherlands kick-off the second half.
HALF-TIME New Zealand 0-1 Netherlands
Netherlands go into half-time in the lead thanks to Lieke Martens’ sublime finish, but New Zealand have shown enough to suggest they could get an equaliser. The Dutch keeper Loes Geurts’ small height could prove a problem from set pieces and high balls.
Annalie Longo breaks into the box and gets to the bye-line, but her cross back is caught by Geurts.
Netherlands have had 60% of possession so far, but most importantly they have the important goal.
Netherlands have a free-kick 30 yards from goal, just right of centre, and close enough for the magic spray to be used. van der Berg takes a deflection in the box and eventually New Zealand clear the ball.
Hannah Wilkson’s right wing cross caused Geurts trouble on her line but parries it down into the ground before claiming.
New Zealand have a penalty appeal as Amber Hearn goes down under van den Berg’s pressure, and it would have been very harsh if it had been given.
Nearly a second as a long ball is played towards Melis, but her first time effort sails over.
33 mins – GOAL New Zealand 0-1 NETHERLANDS (Martens)
Netherlands get their firs goal in a Women’s World Cup. Lieke Martens picks up the ball, takes one touch before her 20 yard effort curled past the despairing dive of Nayler into the bottom right corner. Wonderful goal.

van de Donk’s delightful chipped ball sends Miedema into the box, but Nayler is off her line quickly to claim the ball.
25 mins – DISALLOWED GOAL
New Zealand corner. Percival’s reaches Stott at the far post, whose cross into the box where Geurts claims the ball, before Hannah Wilkinson pushes the keeper into the box with an elbow. The referee quite rightly rules the goal out for a blatant foul on the keeper.
22 mins – CLOSE
The first Dutch corner. van den Berg’s delivery is played into the six-yard box where Stefanie van der Gragt’s header just goes wide of the far post.
20 mins – CLOSE

Manon Melis’ brilliant cross looks like it was picking out Miedema, but she is denied by Nayler’s super punch.
New Zealand corner taken by Ria Percival is cleared.
A long ball looking for Vivianne Miedema finds her, but Nayler is there to clear well outside her box.
13 mins – DISALLOWED GOAL
A header down by Materns sends Danielle van de Donk into the box, and she chips the ball over the keeper and into the net, but the assistant rules it out for offside.
Annalie Longo beats her defender shooting from 25 yards, and her curling effort is held by Loes Geurts. Then Netherlands go up the other end with Lieke Martens shooting from 25 yards straight at Erin Nayler.
Mandy van den Berg makes a mess of her clearance and it falls to Annalie Longo, but her effort hit Anouk Dekker’s head. Best chance so far.
A pass-back by Ali Riley is nearly chased down but New Zealand’s keeper Erin Nayler cleared.
New Zealand are making their third successive World Cup appearance but have yet to win a match, whilst Netherlands are making their debut. New Zealand qualified at ease, winning the 2014 Oceania Nations Cup, scoring 30 goals and conceded none. Meanwhile Netherlands qualified via the play-offs, beating Scotland and Italy.
New Zealand: Naylor, Percival, Duncan, Erceg, Stott, Riley, Hearn, Gregorius, Bowen, Longo, Wilkinson.
Netherlands: Guerts, Van Lunteren, Van der Gragt, Van den Berg, Hogewoning, Dekker, Melis, Spitse, Miedema, van de Donk, Martens.
We’ve already seen Canada only just beat China. What can New Zealand and Netherlands offer?
