Australia pushed the two-time World Champions all the way, but in the end, the USA win 3-1 to put themselves into pole position in the Group of Death.
Krieger’s deep cross picked out Kerr, but her header is an easy save for Solo.

Catlin Foord has a meandering run and nearly breaks into the box, but the ball never quites falls for any Australian player.

Alex Morgan has her first shot from just outside the box, but her effort goes winde and over.
Australia have a free-kick from 40 yards, but Van Egmond’s delivery is superbly punched clear by Sol.

Megan Rapinoe has so much space on the left as she runs from the half-way line, into the box, given time and drives the ball into the bottom right corner. Great goal.
Lloyd is sent down the right, and her great cross is well caught by Barbieri.
America struggles to clear an Australian corner, and the ball is recycled to Gorry, but her 30 yard effort goes well over.
Van Egmond has a driven shot from 30 yards well saved by Solo.

Great break from America as Rapinoe plays Leroux down the left-wing, she cuts in and passes the ball across the box to Press who fires the ball into the right corner.

Alleway takes one for the team as she brings down a maurauding Kerr on the half-way line.
Kerr is played into the American box, but her shot is deflected behind by Sauerbrunn’s superb block.
SECOND HALF STARTS
Half-time USA 1-1 Australia
America have the last chance of the half. Holiday gets down the left, and her cross is cleared only to Leroux, 10 yards from goal, who is leaning back as she chips well over.
Australia have a free-kick on the left, 30 yards from goal. Uzunlar’s inswinging delivery is tantalisingly towards the far post, but no Australian player can get a touch on it and Solo claims it.
Another chance for America. Klingenberg’s inswinging cross from the left picks out Wambach, but her header is weak and easily saved.
This is better from America. This time Leroux has a shot just outside the box, but it is an easy save for Barbeieri.
USA have a free-kick on the left. Rapinoe curls the ball beautifully to the far post, bu Wambach can only get the faintest of touches and the ball goes wide.
Australia have a free-kick as Lloyd fouls Kerr, 30 yards from goal – but Alleway’s free-kick hits the wall.
27 mins – GOAL – USA 1-1 AUSTRALIA (De Vanna)
Australia have a free-kick on the left. Unzular’s delivery is nervously cleared, but Australia work the ball back. Heyman tries to turn and twist in the box, but tees up to De Vanna who blasts the ball into the net, to mark her 100th cap.
USA put together a good mover, and Klingenberg looks like she’s put in a goal-scoring cross but she is ruled narrowly offside.
Uzunlar gets down the right-wing, but her cross is just overhit. Despite the scoreline, Australia are on top.
A lovely Australian passing move sees Van Egmond play in De Vanna, but she blasts the ball over.
USA have a free-kick on the left-wing, but Rapionoe’s delivery is too close to the keeper.
Australia go close. Gorry cuts in and plays an inswinging cross into the box to Kerr, but her volley is superbly saved by Solo.

America take the lead with a hint of luck, as Rapinoe is lucky as she controls the ball, runs at them, before her 25 yard shot takes a massive deflection off Uzunlar, and changes the direction of the ball to the right hand side.
Australia get the first chance as Foord breaks down the left, the pull back deflects into the path of van Egmod, but her blasted shot is superbly saved by Solo
