FULL TIME – South Korea 2-2 Costa Rica
That 89th minute equaliser sees Costa Rica remain 2nd with 2 points, denying South Korea 3 points. That is South Korea’s first World Cup points though. Costa Rica have to play Brazil in their final game, but with their spirit, I wouldn’t be suprised if they win that!
Costa Rica have a free-kick on the left. Lixy Rodriguez’s ball finds Alvarado who heads just wide of the far post.
A wonderful 30 yard pass from Alvardo picks out the run off Villalobos who chests the ball down before shooting to the left of the keeper. She is in tears as she realises she has scored in the World Cup!
A wonderful break down the left see Jung Seolbin cut the ball across towards Jeon but Lixy Rodriguez is there to clear.
Hwang is booked for a foul on Shirley Cruz
Lim Seonjoo replaces Kim Hyeri
Lee Geummin is booked for a foul on Shirley Cruz
81 mins – CLOSE
Lee Geummin plays a wonderful cross towards the far post but Jung Seolbin can’t get her head onto it.
Lee Geummin replaces Yoo Younga
Karla Villalobos replaces Barrantes
Herrera puts a delightful ball into the box which Shim does well to clear.
74 mins – CLOSE
Costa Rica work the ball well across the edge of the box to Lixy Rodriguez whose shot smashes off the top-left corner. The South Korean keeper had left that.
Granados has an effort but it goes well wide.
Kim Hyeri is booked for wasting time with a throw-in.
Costa Rica are dominating things without creating a great chance.
Jeon has a great chance as she shoots across goal, but the ball just goes wide of the far post.
Jung Seolbin replaces the impressive Kang Yumi.
Lixy Rodriguz is in the box, but she is stopped by Shim’s superb tackle.
South Korea have a free-kick on the left. Jeon’s delivery is wonderful, but Ji’s header is blocked by Alvarado.
This should have been third. Carol Sanchez clears the ball straight to Kang, who takes too much time and her shot is blocked.
Costa Rica have a corner. Acosta’s ball doesn’t beat the first defender, and South Korea clear.
Saenz fouls Yoo on the line of the penalty box on the left side. Jeong puts the ball down and curls the ball in, which is saved by Diaz, but Cho can’t score from the rebound. That should have been, by the letter of the law, a penalty.
SECOND HALF STARTS
South Korea start the second half.
HALF-TIME South Korea 2-1 Costa Rica
Costa Rica have a free-kick, about 30 yards from goal on the left wing. Alvarado’s delivery is beautiful, but South Korean defend superbly.
A clever South Korea free-kick goes wrong. Lee Eunmi dummies, but is providing a decoy run down the left for Jeon to pick out. But Lee Eunmi gets her cross all wrong and goes wide of the near post.
Great play down the right as Kang puts in a delightful cross, and Jeon makes a great run to the near post and her glancing header bounces in at the far corner.
Jeon’s cross picks out Yoo, but her header is too close to Diaz.
23 mins – Penalty Appeal
Now Costa Rica want a penalty as Granados goes down in the box under Lee Eunmi. It could have been given.
South Korea have a chance but Yoo’s shot is well saved
Ji sends the keeper the wrong way, placing it in the bottom right corner.
South Korea have a penalty as Granados clips Yoo.
Goal-line technology is needed to give this goal. Costa Rica have a free-kick on the half-way line, which is launched into the box by Lixy Rodriguez. The ball is allowed to reach Herrera who fires the ball over the keeper, and despite Hwang’s best efforts, the ball goes over the line.
13 mins – Close
Kwon shoots from just outside the box, but Diaz gets enough to tip it onto the bar and over. South Korea can’t get anything from the corner, but Kim Hyeri puts a dangerous ball into the box but Diaz claims well.
12 mins – Close
Rodriguez Cedeno makes space for herself just outside the box before shooting narrowly wide of the right post. Game’s best chance
Herrera’s shot bounces upwards and Lee Eunmi’s header is poor but the ball won’t fall for Granados and Shim clears.
Another chance for Korea. A quick throw sents Ji into the box, she chests the ball down and fires her shot at Diaz who claims at the second attempt.
The ball nearly falls for Ji in the box, but Diaz is bravely out to claim.
First half-chance to South Korea as a great run from Kang gets the ball into the box, and the ball falls to Yoo, but her shot is well saved by Diaz.
Costa Rica starts the first half.
