40 mins – CLOSE
Lucy Bronze’s passback is casual, Hegerberg intercepts, she runs into the box, Bronze wrestles with her to win the ball back but Hegerberg keeps on her feet and Bardsley makes the save. If the Norwegian striker goes down, that is a penalty.
A ball over the top sends Minde into the box, but Bassett uses her body brilliantly and forces the free-kick as she is pushed in the back.
Mjelde’s deep cross runs all the way through to the unmarked Herlovsen, but her first-time shot goes well wide.
England have a free-kick as Minde fouls Carney. It’s about 30 yards from goal. WIlliams goes for goal, but it would have needed to have been from 60 yards to threaten the goal.
England have a corner as Williams’ hopeful ball hits Skammelsrund Lund’s shoulder and behind. The corner is wasted, but Rafferty puts a delightful ball back in that doesn’t fall for Chapman but Norway clear behind. Williams’ corner then picked out Houghton who heads over.
Ingrid Moe Wold is in lots of space down the left. Her cross takes a deflection off Carney which causes it to wickedly bounce up in the air. Hegerberg gets inbetween Bronze and Houghton to head wide of the far post.
Toni Duggan is receiving treatment for a knock on her ankle, giving everyone time to take on fluids. It is reported to be 47C on the pitch due to the artificial pitch.
Gry Tofte Ims plays a long pass to Hegerberg who looks like she’s breaking through, but Laura Bassett just manages to make the crucial interception.
Norway come close again. Mykland’s delightful curled ball towards the far post is nearly turned in by Ada Hegerberg, but she can’t stretch enough to divert the ball goal-wards. Norway have 67% of possession. England need to control the ball better.

God Save The Queen wins the battle of the national anthems. Now to win the football match.
National Anthem Time. Norway first.
England have never beaten a European team or won a knockout game at a World Cup. Will that be broken tonight?
Less than ten minutes left to go…please England, avoid a penalty shootout.
Norway have won every competition possible: World Cup, European Championships and the Olympics.
Norway and England have met three times. In 1995, Norway beat England 2-0 in the Quarter-Finals and the other two meetings were friendlies. In 2008, England beat them 2-1 whilst last year the teams drew 1-1.
It is 27C today, and on the pitch it will be nearer 47C due to the artificial pitch.

21:23 – Team News
Norway make four changes from the team that beat Cote D’Ivoire. Captain Trine Ronning returns in defence, as do Ingrid Moe Wold and Maren Mjelde. Gry Tofte Ims comes into midfield, with Maria Thorisdottir, Lisa-Marie Utland, Elise Thorsnes and Emilie Haavi the players losing their spot.
England (according to FIFA) will play a 4-1-3-2 formation. Lucy Bronze and Claire Rafferty return as full-backs, with Laura Basset once again partnering Steph Houghton in central defence. Katie Chapman comes into midfield, probably to deal with the dangers of that Norwegian attack. Alex Scott, Alex Greenwood, Jordan Nobbs and Casey Stoney are the players who make way
When the Norway male side beat England in 1981 in a qualifying match for 1982 Euros, commentator Bjorge Lillelien uttered words that have become sporting legend:
Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana, we have beaten them all, we have beaten them all. Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me? Maggie Thatcher, your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!
I don’t think Norway have recalled that, not according to this front cover.
Welcome to my live-text coverage of Norway vs England. Knockout football…England…you can already hear those dreaded words. Penalty Shootout.
