Norway gets this Last 16 underway.

God Save The Queen wins the battle of the national anthems. Now to win the football match.

National Anthem Time. Norway first.

England have never beaten a European team or won a knockout game at a World Cup. Will that be broken tonight?

Less than ten minutes left to go…please England, avoid a penalty shootout.

Norway have won every competition possible: World Cup, European Championships and the Olympics.

Norway and England have met three times. In 1995, Norway beat England 2-0 in the Quarter-Finals and the other two meetings were friendlies. In 2008, England beat them 2-1 whilst last year the teams drew 1-1.

It is 27C today, and on the pitch it will be nearer 47C due to the artificial pitch.

(4-3-3) Ingrid Hjelmseth, Maren Mjelde, Trine Ronning (c), Marita Skammelsrud Lund, Ingrid Moe Wold, Solveig Gulbrandsen, Lene Mykjaland, Gry Tofte Ims, Kristine Minde, Isabell Herlovsen.

(4-1-3-2) Karen Bardsley, Lucy Bronze, Steph Houghton (c), Laura Bassett, Claire Rafferty, Fara Williams, Jade Moore, Karen Carney, Katie Chapman, Fran Kirby, Toni Duggan.

21:23 – Team News

Norway make four changes from the team that beat Cote D’Ivoire. Captain Trine Ronning returns in defence, as do Ingrid Moe Wold and Maren Mjelde. Gry Tofte Ims comes into midfield, with Maria Thorisdottir, Lisa-Marie Utland, Elise Thorsnes and Emilie Haavi the players losing their spot.

England (according to FIFA) will play a 4-1-3-2 formation. Lucy Bronze and Claire Rafferty return as full-backs, with Laura Basset once again partnering Steph Houghton in central defence. Katie Chapman comes into midfield, probably to deal with the dangers of that Norwegian attack. Alex Scott, Alex Greenwood, Jordan Nobbs and Casey Stoney are the players who make way

When the Norway male side beat England in 1981 in a qualifying match for 1982 Euros, commentator Bjorge Lillelien uttered words that have become sporting legend:

Lord Nelson, Lord Beaverbrook, Sir Winston Churchill, Sir Anthony Eden, Clement Attlee, Henry Cooper, Lady Diana, we have beaten them all, we have beaten them all. Maggie Thatcher, can you hear me? Maggie Thatcher, your boys took a hell of a beating! Your boys took a hell of a beating!

I don’t think Norway have recalled that, not according to this front cover.
