Club History

Celtic Women were founded in 2007 and founded a Girls and Women’s Football Academy, as they took over Arsenal North. In their first season, they were close to winning a trophy as they reached the Scottish Cup Final. Unfortunately, they lost to Hibernian in a 3-1 extra time defeat.

In the league, they have come close to winning the SWPL, finishing as runners-up in the 2010 seasons.

They have won one trophy when they beat Spartans 4-1 to win the SWP League Cup in 2010.

Last season

In the first phase of the SWPL, Celtic finished up in 3rd place, only losing one game at home in a narrow 1-0 defeat to Glasgow City. They also lost two single goal defeats away from home against Hibs and Rangers. Celtic though struggled in the second phase picking up 5 points and only winning one match, a 3-2 win over Spartans. The other points they picked up were in two draws against Aberdeen.

In the SWP League Cup, they reached the Semi-Finals. They were given a bye from the First Round, before beating Hamilton 4-0 in the Quarter-Finals. However, their run came to an end as Hibernian beat them 3-0 in the Semi-Finals.

Celtic’s Scottish Cup run was short as they were knocked out by Glasgow City in the Second Round.

Their season so far

After losing their opening league game to Hibernian, they went on to win their next three matches against Stirling University, Hearts and Forfar Farmington. However, this run came to an end as they lost games against Glasgow City and Rangers. But from that, they only dropped two points in a draw against Aberdeen as they won four out their last five games.

Since the league resumed, they have lost their two games against the SWPL Title Contenders: Glasgow City (3-0) and Hibernian (1-0).

Like last season, they reached the semi-finals of the SWP League Cup. After thrashing Hearts 8-0 in the First Round, they then knocked out Stirling University in the Quarter-Finals. However, their run came to an end as Glasgow City beat them 4-0 in the Semi-Finals.

They had a comfortable time in the Scottish Cup Second Round as they beat Dundee City 29-0. Celtic had a harder task in the Third Round against Stirling University, but managed to win 2-0.
